Anti- Ragging Cell

In the higher educational institutions, ragging is a distressing fact. Ragging has claimed lives of a number of young students and has destroyed careers of lots of bright students. Even after the order of Supreme Court that ‘ragging in any form is punishable offence’, the practice of ragging is still prevalent in many ways in the higher educational institutions among young college-going students.

As per the order of Supreme Court of India and notification from University Grants Commission (UGC), an Anti-ragging cell has been constructed in Mankachar College, Mankachar to eradicate ragging in all forms by the students from the institution. The aim of this cell is to prevent occurrence of ragging in the college and punish all those students who indulge in ragging, in accordance with the Supreme Court Regulations, and thereby making the academic environment of the college sound and joyful.

According to the order of Supreme Court of India and notification from University Grants Commission (UGC), ragging constitutes any kind of act by a student or group of students (seniors) to another group of students (juniors) as mentioned below:

  • Any act that disrupts the regular academic activity.
  • Any act of teasing, indiscipline, or rudeness.
  • Any act of mental, physical or sexual abuse
  • Any act of financial extortion
  • Any act that cause annoyance, hardship, psychological harm or creates fear or apprehension.
  • Any act of abuse by words, emails, SMS, and public insult etc.
  • Any act of violation of the fundamental rights to the human dignity.
  • Any act of molestation or criminal activity.
  • Any unlawful conspiracy for ragging.
  • The students getting indulged in ragging are punished in the following way:
  • Debarring from appearing in any test / University Examination
  • Suspension from attending classes
  • Withholding scholarships and other benefits
  • Cancellation of admission
  • Debarring from representing the institution in any occasion
  • Composition of the Cell

    The Anti-ragging Cell is constituted having 5 members from amongst the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college as follows-
  • Chairman- Principal of the College
  • One convenor- To be selected from amongst the teachers in a general meeting of the teachers.
  • Four members- From the teaching staff of the college selected in a general meeting of the teachers.
