CODES OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS, TEACHERS & NON-TEACHING STAFF OF MANKACHAR COLLEGE

The codes of conduct of the students, teachers, and non-teaching staff should be characterised by integrity. The codes of conduct have been created to help students, teachers, and non-teaching staff understand the college's rules and regulations. All students, teaching and non-teaching staff are expected to strictly adhere to the codes of conduct outlined in this document.

Codes of Conduct for Students:

All students must abide by the rules and regulations of the college. If a student violates the rules and regulations, the College Administration may take disciplinary action. Students are advised to follow the codes of conduct and fulfil their responsibilities as students. The following rules must be followed by the students:

  • Students are expected to maintain the highest standards of discipline and dignified behaviour both on and off the College campus. They must follow the rules and regulations of the college and act in a way that reflects the College's discipline and esteem.
  • Classes are held according to the schedule. A student is required to attend 75% of the classes that are held. Those who have less than the required percentage of attendance are not permitted to take the semester exams.
  • Honours classes begin at 9.00 a.m., while Regular classes begin at 9.45 a.m./10.00 a.m. The classes may last until 4.30 p.m. Students should arrive at the college at least 15 minutes before the beginning of the first class as per Daily Class Schedule.
  • When the teacher enters the classroom, students must rise from their seats and remain standing until the teacher takes her/his seat or the teacher allows them to sit. During class hours, silence is to be maintained.
  • No students shall enter or leave the classroom without the permission of the teacher concerned when the class is in progress.
  • Use of cell phones is strictly prohibited during lectures. Any violation will result in disciplinary action.
  • Any disruptive activity in a classroom or in an event sponsored by the college authority is not welcomed and may lead to disciplinary action.
  • Students are expected to read the Notices/circulars posted on the notice board.
  • A dress code fosters a more serious college environment that emphasises academics and encourages good behaviour. As a result, all students on campus are expected to be neatly dressed in uniform at all times.
  • Tight-fitting, low-waisted, pencil-fit pants are not permitted at the college.
  • Studs, ponytails, long/coloured hair, and body piercing are strictly prohibited for boys.
  • If a student is found to be in violation of the dress code, the student's parents or guardians will be notified immediately.
  • All students must wear their Identity Cards prominently displayed. The identity card/badge is a public document, and any teaching or non-teaching staff member has the right to read/check it. Denial of that alone is grounds for disciplinary action.
  • Students are expected to maintain silence in academic buildings, and any deviant behaviour such as hooting, whistling, loitering, etc. will be treated as an instance of indiscipline.
  • A student should only request leave in the prescribed form. Only in the event of the Principal's/HOD's/class teacher's desertion may leave be granted. A medical certificate must be submitted if the leave is for more than three days due to illness.
  • Permission from the Principal is required in advance to represent the college in extra-curricular activities such as sports, cultural events, festivals, NCC, NSS, and so on.
  • Students must assist in keeping the institute campus neat and clean.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in classrooms or computer labs. These can only be consumed in designated areas.
  • Unless otherwise specified, all students are expected to attend all college functions in college uniform.
  • Spitting, smoking, and throwing paper should be avoided on the premises.
  • Misuse or unauthorised use of institute premises or property, including computer and library misuse, shall result in disciplinary and penal action.
  • Students should not participate in any ragging activities. Any violation of this will result in penalties as determined by the honourable Supreme Court and any other Competent Authority from time to time.
  • All acts of violence and sexual harassment will result in disciplinary or criminal action as determined by the competent authority.
  • All students must maintain academic integrity, respect all people, and their rights and property, and ensure the safety of others.
  • Contrary to law or policy, unlawful possession, carrying or use of any weapon, ammunition, explosives, or potential weapons, fireworks are strictly prohibited. Any violation will result in disciplinary and legal actions.
  • Illegal possession or use of hazardous chemicals and illegal drugs, smoking, use of tobacco products like gutkha, etc. are not allowed in the college campus. Violation will lead to penalty and disciplinary action.
  • Parking a vehicle at a no-parking zone or an area designated for teaching or non-teaching staff or for other types of vehicles is a violation of college rule and will attract disciplinary/penal action.
  • Students are not permitted to interact with media representatives on behalf of the college or to invite media personnel to the campus without the permission of the college authorities.
  • Students are not permitted to provide audio or video clips of any campus activities to the media without prior permission of the authority.
  • EXAMINATION RULES:

  • No mobile phone or electronic device capable of storing, transmitting, or receiving data or information are permitted in the examination halls.
  • Students must bring all materials required for the examination as instructed.
  • Students must attend all tests and demonstrate good academic progress.
  • Students who failed more than two subjects in the semester exam should bring their parents to meet with the HOD on the scheduled date.
  • Candidates must arrive in the examination room at least 15 minutes before the examination begins and sit according to the seat plan.
  • Candidates are not permitted to communicate with one another in any way during the examination.
  • LIBRARY RULES:

  • The library is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with lunch breaks in between.
  • Complete silence is required inside the library.
  • Students will not have free use of the library. They should only request books through a requisition slip.
  • No student may take more than two books at the same time. He/she may borrow it for a maximum of 15 days before incurring a fine.
  • If a book goes missing or is damaged, the student is responsible for the cost of the book.
  • As they enter the library, all students should sign the entry register.
  • After returning all of the books issued, each student must obtain a no-due certificate from the library.
  • Any damage to the library's accessories or books will result in a fine.
  • COMPUTER CENTRE/LABORATORY RULES:

  • In the lab, students must maintain complete silence and decorum.
  • Students should leave their shoes outside the lab in the designated area.
  • In the computer lab, do not install software without permission and do not remove or disconnect parts, cables, or labels.
  • The computer lab's furniture should be kept in good condition.
  • Report any hardware issues to the Lab in-Charge.
  • Punishment for Violation of Rules and Regulations:

    If a student is found guilty of any act of indiscipline or misconduct, as well as a violation of the college's rules and regulations, the college authority may impose any of the following punishments.

  • Exclusion from taking the examination
  • Internal mark deduction
  • Being expelled from the college
  • Withholding outcomes
  • A fine of up to Rs. 15,000/- may be imposed. (In the case of ragging in accordance with Supreme Court orders/rules)
  • Filing a FIR with the police
  • Any damage to college property should be repaired by the students responsible.
  • Ragging is Criminal offence. Ragging constitutes any of the following acts:

  • Any act or words spoken or written by any student or students that has the effect of teasing, treating, or handling a fresher or any other student.
  • Indulging in indiscipline behaviour by any student or students that causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm, or raises fear or apprehension in any new or other student.
  • Requiring any student to perform any act that such student would not perform in the ordinary course and that has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, torment, or embarrassment in such a way as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of that fresher or any other student.
  • Any form of physical abuse, including sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person.
  • Any act or abuse through spoken words, emails, posts, or public insults, as well as deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfort of a fresher or any other student.
  • Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student, with or without intent to derive sadistic pleasure, or any act by a student to demonstrate power, authority, or superiority over any fresher or any other student.
  • Punishment for Violation of Rules and Regulations of Ragging:

  • Admission cancellation
  • Withholding/withdrawal of scholarship and other benefits
  • A fine of up to Rs. 15,000/- may be imposed.
  • Rustication/expulsion from the college

  • Anti-Ragging Committee: The Anti-Ragging Committee was formed in accordance with the college administration's guidelines. In the event of ragging, all students are encouraged to approach them without hesitation.

    Codes of Conduct for Faculty Members:

    All faculty members are expected to conduct themselves well so that students regard their teachers as role models. The following rules must be followed by the teaching staff:

  • Teachers must demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness in professional service delivery, as well as to maintain and improve standards and develop new initiatives in teaching and learning.
  • Teachers must maintain a professional relationship with all students at all times, recognising that all students are equal and fostering students' intellectual, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual potential.
  • Teachers must demonstrate a commitment to working with students, a positive attitude toward the teaching profession, and a high standard of quality and excellence in their professional service delivery.
  • All teachers must adhere to strict punctuality, honesty, and professional ethics and standards.
  • Every teacher is expected to carry out his or her duties efficiently and effectively in accordance with the standards established by the College from time to time.
  • Faculty members should arrive at the college at least 10 minutes before the College’s start time.
  • All faculty members must be enthusiastic about the subjects that have been assigned to them.
  • Before the start of classes, all faculty members should prepare a lesson/teaching plan, notes, and academic file.
  • Teachers should be good counsellors and facilitators for guiding, encouraging, and assisting students to ensure that the teaching and learning process is effective and successful. Teachers must make every effort to ensure their students' physical, mental, and intellectual development.
  • Teachers must be impartial with the students and treat the students fairly irrespective of gender, caste, creed, or religion, etc. and social, political and economic backgrounds.
  • Faculty members must take attendance within the first 5 minutes of the beginning of the class. Latecomers should not be denied admission to classes because they arrived late. Such students, however, are not required to attend.
  • Teachers must refrain from using physical punishment on students who engage in misbehaviour in the classroom. They can, however, warn such students or report them to the HOD/Principal for appropriate action.
  • Indiscipline, misbehaviour, or insubordination should be dealt with at the departmental or principal level, and teachers should not threaten students with grades or other punitive action for their lapses or indiscipline.
  • A faculty member is expected to develop a closer relationship with the students' parents/guardians in order to achieve not only the broader educational objectives but also the students' progress.
  • The faculty member should monitor the students' progress and share information about them with their parents/guardians, as well as receive information about them. This is critical for the students' development.
  • A faculty member is expected to form fraternal relationships with his or her colleagues in order to foster proper interpersonal relationships and team spirit.
  • Extend collaboration with colleagues in evaluating students and other activities related to educational matters and professional development.
  • Each faculty member should be responsible for teaching regular classes and practical, as well as taking extra classes as needed.
  • All faculty members must respect the student's right and dignity in expressing his or her opinion.
  • No faculty member shall act in any way that violates campus decorum or morality.
  • All faculty members must adhere to government/institutional policies and practises in order to fulfil the institute's/ government’s vision and mission.
  • Before going on leave, the faculty members must adjust their classes and show the HOD the consent of the substitute teacher.
  • Codes of Conduct for Non-Teaching Staff:

  • All non-teaching staff members employed by the college must perform their duties efficiently and diligently in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the Competent Authority and exhibit the highest professional standards possible.
  • All employees must be punctual and disciplined in their work.
  • All staff members must maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality when it comes to student and staff records, as well as other sensitive information. Do not discuss professional or other information about the College with unauthorised individuals.
  • All non-teaching staff members should work together with students, colleagues, and teachers at the college.
  • All non-teaching staff members must uphold the institute's image through dress codes, general courtesy, and so on.
  • All employees must respect the rights and opinions of others.
  • All non-teaching staff members must adhere to all norms and job details as assigned by the college administration from time to time.
  • As the technical and administrative staffs are expected to work closely with the faculty of the College on a daily basis, the staff should respect the faculty members' prerogative to look after the student's education and provide all assistance needed in the discharge of his/her duties in imparting quality education.
  • Work collaboratively with the College authorities to achieve the College's vision and mission by performing his/her role professionally.
  • Avoid unethical practises, even if they are 'customary.' Integrity should never be compromised for the sake of expediency.
  • Should adhere to all College norms and job details assigned to the member on a regular basis.
  • All employees are prohibited from engaging in any form of harassment or unlawful discrimination based on existing legal norms relating to gender/sexuality/age/marital status. Violations of the code of conduct by teaching and non-teaching staff may result in disciplinary action, a Show Cause Notice, a Memo, an Enquiry Committee, or any other action as determined by the College Authority.
